There’s actually a fair number of free things, and you can scroll through and you can make, they have some cute cards. This would be a fun thing to make right now, not dissimilar from our project that we’re doing today. So lots of things that you could do for free. Okay, so that’s how you would find there. So there’s a lot more to filtering through images that we don’t have time to talk about today, but, again, I want you to come in here and poke around and click and learn how it works.

Now, if we weld, it will actually put them together permanently, which is what I’m looking for. So I’m gonna click on weld and there we go. So now we’ve just created a new shape that didn’t exist before until we made it, and this is now and something that we could cut out and it will cut out right around the edges like this. When I go to make it, you’ll see it retained that shape.

All right, so this button right here, maybe I didn’t. Okay, so there are over 200,000 images in Cricut Design Space. It actually tells you how many there are. So there’s a variety of different images in here. There’s ones that are free, there are ones that you have to buy, and then there’s ones that are part of Cricut Access.

When you type your words using the text function in Design Space it spaces your letters out. With a script font, you want your letters to be touching. To fix this, type your word out (top line in image below) and then click Ungroup. Then your Cricut will cut the design out all in one big piece.

Each color is a different layer (or material) in Design Space. So you see some really cute Cricut project on Pinterest, you get the file, you upload it to Design Space and ….. Why can’t the Cricut just use regular images? Well, it is because the blade needs directional information to know what paths to cut.
Next to the Operation tool you will see a box. Depending on what operation you have selected, this box will change. Finally, you’ll see different categories of ready-to-make projects. These are projects created by Cricut, Cricut brand partners, and Cricut Community Members that have already been designed and can be cut with the push of a button. These selections change depending on what holidays or seasons are coming up, or what kind of craft trends Cricut sees coming.
So, what if you don’t already have your own images? There are a variety of places to find free images to bring into Cricut Design Space. Cricut Joy has a simpler app you can also use, to help you create quick projects on the go. Find out more about the Cricut Joy app here.
Sorry Chromebook users, currently you can’t use Design Space on your Chromebook. Cracking the Cricut is an ebook and mini video e-course with a comprehensive single-page reference guide for every basic function in Cricut Design Space. If you like my slightly nerdy technical explanations with a bad sense of humor, you can get the full version of it in my ebook Cracking the Cricut. I’ve created this super helpful comprehensive quick reference for Cricut Design Space. To temporary hide these elements, I can use the Contour button in the bottom right corner. Lets use this cowboy kitty as an example.
So this will take about the same amount of time to cut. All right, so it says that it’s all done and we can unload our material. You get this little box at the top and you can just dismiss it up here. And unloading, again, is the flashing arrow that’s up and down here. This one’ll be harder to see, but I’ll try to show it to you anyways. So look at how beautiful and clean that cuts.
Let’s go ahead and change its style, because right now its style, and here’s the style menu, it’s set to regular. We need the writing font, the writing style. I’m gonna select that and it’s gonna change, so it actually changes quite a bit. So this here is, and those Gs are just the way they are, it’s just the style of the font, it’s not a mistake.
To unlock the proportions when sizing this way, click the Lock that appears in the bottom left-hand corner of the image when it is selected. Another place to find all free images is to head to the All Images screen and then click the green Browse All Images link. Use the filter function to apply a filter to Free under the Ownership heading. This will narrow your search to only images that are free. You will find this in the side bar on desktop.
If you go like this and just peel it off. What you get is curled a piece of paper. You don’t want curled pieces of paper, because paper, whatever, especially a certificate, it should be nice and straight.
This is the color picker box, and if I click on it, I get access to a menu of common colors. I could choose one like red, and now it’s red. Now, if you click on advanced here, which is the little plus sign, you get access to whatever color you want. So if you really want like a more of a pink, you can just use this grid here. It’s not really a grid, the spectrum, the shader.
